I’d like to point out one line as said by Indonesia’s House of Representatives speaker, Marzuki Alie, ”We know that there have been a series of rapes and other immoral acts recently,” he said. “Those things happened because women don’t dress decently, prompting men to do things. You know what men are like – provocative clothing will make them do things.”
Is it a woman’s job to dress so as to not give men ideas, or a man’s job to understand not to rape.. I think you all know how I feel.

As the summer approaches I know we all are dying to shed some layers and dress according to the upcoming heat waves. However, don’t shed too many, at least not if you are going to Indonesia. Their religious affairs minister, Suryadharma Ali, has propsed a ban of miniskirts as he believe they are pronographic.

“We still haven’t established criteria, but we know pornography when we see it” Mr Ali said, according to the Wall Street Journal. “There should be a general criteria, for example skirts worn by women must flow past the knees”.

  1. I think if the government is going to ban miniskirts, they should do it because they are predominantly a Muslim country. Not because women in miniskirts are asking for trouble. And I read somewhere that, we live in a time where we teach our girls on how to not get raped rather than teaching our boys, not to rape.

    • I read about that too! I get banning them within a religion, but the whole country isn’t Muslim, so I have to wonder how it would affect followers of other (or no) religions.

      • Yeah exactly. I am guessing that women of other religions have to come to a compromise, because they wouldn’t ban wearing skirts but promote more modest skirts instead. At least, that is what I have seen in other countries! An interesting issue though!

      • Yeah, I’d find that difficult even though I don’t wear miniskirts :)
My work wanted to make it so all our skirts had to be 2 inches below the knee, and everything I own and can find is usually at the knee or an inch above. It’ll be interesting to see what happens.
